Turbine Chooses Havok Cloth to Give Ultimate Visual Believability in an Upcoming MMO Console Title
San Francisco, CA (November 10, 2009) – Havok today announced that the company’s Cloth software is being used by development studio powerhouse Turbine. The development team plans to utilize Havok Cloth in a yet-to-be-announced massively multiplayer online video game.
Havok Cloth is a platform-optimized run-time SDK and toolset that significantly increases the realism of game characters and environments by enabling character designers to add true-to-life, physically based motion to garments, environmental objects and other deformable items like capes, hair, or tails. Havok Cloth also minimizes the time that artists spend on animating the behavior of character garments and environmental cloth in games.
“We needed an art tool that allows our artists to quickly generate and visualize high quality cloth assets to enrich the Xbox 360™ and PLAYSTATION®3 environmental and character experiences,” said Christopher Dyl, Chief Technology Officer at Turbine. “We have used Havok’s software products in several of our Triple-A titles and Havok Cloth was the clear choice.”
“Turbine’s remarkable innovation continues to move the video game industry forward, and we’re pleased the team has once again chosen Havok’s unparalleled toolset as part of its development process. Our relationship with Turbine demonstrates the range of leading entertainment properties and platforms that Havok is capable of supporting,” said David O’Meara, Managing Director at Havok.
Havok Cloth is easily customizable and fits into today’s workflow to maximize the productivity of artists, animators, and programmers. Havok Cloth also features out-of-the-box integration with Havok Physics and Havok Animation. As with all Havok products, Havok Cloth delivers optimal performance on the latest hardware, with full support for leading game platforms.
