Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Havok Physics for Havok Cloth to work?

No. Havok Cloth is a standalone tool that can handle a level of physics collisions independently and will work with whatever physics system you use. If Havok Physics is used in the project the two products will work together for even better performance, but this is not required.

Iā€™m struggling to get the behavior I want out of my current Cloth solution, how can Havok Cloth help?

Havok Cloth is built for fine grain artistic control. Our tools are flexible to adapt to your use cases and allow you to tweak your cloth down to the individual vertices. This flexibility also allows you to create a custom workflow, so once you find your desired behavior you can recreate it with ease.

Does Havok Cloth work with Unreal Engine?

Yes. All Havok products have Unreal Engine integrations. We first supported Havok Physics for Unreal in Unreal Engine Version 3 and added Havok Cloth for Unreal in Unreal Engine version 4.11.

Since Havok Cloth is a standalone tool it can move with you to any new engine, so moving your assets from a custom in-house engine to Unreal Engine is a matter of adding 1 UE specific filter to the export pipeline.

Havok Cloth is fully production ready and fully supported. Havok Engineers are available to help with implementation and problems solving, and we provide full documentation for the entire product.

My game has character creation. How can I make dynamic cloth setups based on player settings?

Since Havok 2023.1 we have supported adjusting cloth setups at runtime. This allows you to author a cloth setup and provide parameters at a later point at runtime to support characters of varying dimensions.

What can Havok Cloth do other than clothes?

Cloth simulation is named after the most common use case: clothing. But the same principles and technology can be used in many different areas of a game. Havok Cloth is used to create secondary motion and to enhance any object that ā€œflowsā€. This can be grass, trees, hair, tassels, earrings, and fur, as well as soft bodies like balloons and bellies.
