Havok x Unity Engine

Havok Physics for Unity was initially released in 2019 and became fully production ready in 2022. This out-of-the-box integration enables a Havok implementation of Physics to build on Unity’s Entity system and is supported by the Unity team.

Unity users represent a large percentage of game developers and for a long time these creators had limited access to Havok products. Forming a partnership with Unity to bring an implementation of Physics to their users was the perfect opportunity to fill that gap. This partnership led to the creation of Havok Physics for Unity.

Havok Physics for Unity (ECS)

This package builds on top of the ECS system within Unity and is available to anyone with a Unity Pro license or above.

You can access Havok Physics for Unity through the Unity package manager.

This package augments the Unity Physics for Entities system, allowing physics scenes authored for DOTS to be simulated using a binary version of a physics implementation by Havok.

As of 2022 Havok Physics for Unity is completely production ready. All support for Havok Physics for Unity is handled by the Unity team.

WhileĀ Havok Physics for Unity is an out-of-the-box implementation, sometimes games require access to the full Havok Physics SDK with the ability to modify and adjust the feature set directly. This level of access is available through a custom integration of the Havok Physics SDK.

Havok Physics ā€“ full source SDK integration to Unity engine

For full access to the Havok Physics SDK source you need to independently license the SDK. This is not included in any Unity license.

This approach requires a manual integration of the Havok Physics SDK into Unity, just like an integration into a proprietary engine. To do this form of integration you first need full source access to the Unity engine. The full integration will need to be handled by your team, and this is treated like any proprietary engine license.

For inquiries and support on a full source integration, after confirming full source access to the Unity engine, get in touch through the Havok website.

Hopefully this helps to answer some of the questions you have about the Havok product offering in the Unity engine.

The full Havok product suite also includes Havok Navigation which caters to fast and dynamic pathfinding in games, and Havok Cloth, a solution enabling fine grain artistic control over cloth simulation and secondary motion. These are not currently integrated into Unity but can be made available through a full source SDK integration.
