Havok in The News
Science Week in Ireland is an exciting and innovative annual event which first took place in 1996. This year Science Week’s theme is 'Science – Inspiring Creativity and Innovation’ which will explore and examine the importance of creativity and innovation and the vital role it plays in science, engineering and technology. As an Irish company, Havok played its part in the Science Week events to support the use of science and technology in mainstream media and culture.
This video, developed by Havok and the Royal Irish Academy, was broadcasted at events to mark the anniversary of Irish Mathematician and Physicist, Sir William Rowan Hamilton, who discovered Quaternions in 1843.
Quaternions are exceptionally useful in both theoretical and applied mathematics, in particular for calculations involving three-dimensional rotations such as in three-dimensional computer graphics and epipolar geometry. Today Havok still uses Hamilton’s discoveries to make games and movies as realistic as possible.
The Director of Science Week, Peter Brabazon, gave a very positive mention for Havok in a recent interview with Irish radio station 4FM. Speaking on ‘Lunchtime on 4’ with the presenter Al Dunne, they discussed Ireland’s track record in Math and Sciences and cited Havok as an example of a successful Irish company.
Currently the video is also provided to the Office of the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government, who may use it to highlight Ireland’s history in science and Math at the The Euroscience Open Forum in Turin, Italy in 2010.
